Acting WHO Representative meets with the delegation to the 64th session of the Africa Regional Committee

Maputo, 28 October 2014- The Acting WHO  Country Representative for Mozambique, Dr. Ambrose Disadidi, met on  Monday-  with the Mozambican delegation to the 64th Session of the WHO Regional Committee (RC 64)  for Africa to take place in Cotonou, Republic of Benin from 3rd to 7th  November 2014. The Acting WHO representative was accompanied by Program Officers from the WHO country Office.

The meeting objective was to brief the delegation on the agenda of the Regional Committee and on what is the expected from participation of Mozambican delegation at this Governing Body of WHO in the African Region. This body is composed of the Ministers of Health of the 47 member states of the African Region. The Mozambican delegation to the RC 64, composed of seven members, is headed by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Nazira Vali Abdula. 

During the briefing both sides reviewed the agenda for the RC 64 and deepened the main challenges in the health sector in the country. Among several aspects were addressed including the following:

1) Status of f Mozambique's progress towards achieving the MDGs 4.5 and 6 namely: Maternal Neonatal and Child-Health (MNCH); HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; 

2) Regional Strategy Vaccination Plan 2014 -2020; 

3) Viral Hepatitis: Situation Analysis and Perspectives in the African Region; 

4) Africa Emergency Fund for Public Health and

5) Epidemic of Ebola virus disease.
